Main Page: Miniature Log Cabins and Wooden House

I created this blog so that I had some way to showcase the handmade miniature log cabins and wooden houses I create, build and assemble.

I started building miniature log cabins and wooden houses as a hobby to fill up some spare time. I found myself so engrossed with each of my designs and projects I would say it turned into a full time passion. I am able to just look over a structure and come up with an idea of how to build it in miniature. To build my miniature log cabins and wooden houses, I use the traditional wooden dowels as well as the more intricate smaller wooden sticks as my base materials. I have found with the smaller sticks I have a greater flexibility in design which allows me to create more shapes and details than I was doing with the larger dowels. More than a few people have suggested that I really should seriously consider marketing them whether it be at craft shows, on consignment somewhere, in a store, maybe by wholesale, and of course online. My wife agreed. It seems she thought since I was building so many "projects" that it would be a great idea to start my own little business too. Was she suggesting that going into business would give a point and purpose to my activities ? When I asked, she just smiles.

These miniature log cabins and wooden houses are already completely assembled and ready to go. They look great as focal points on tables and mantles. They would be a wonderful addition to an existing log cabin collection. Some of my wooden house designs are so unique and charming they would fit into any type of decor. Each design is handmade with attention paid to details. They make special gifts for all occasions and holidays. Check out the posts to the right. Each post is on a miniature log cabin or wooden house designed, built and available for a special someone right now.

Miniature Light Wooden Log Cabin

This is a larger version of a miniature Log Cabin. It has a light color stain and was built by hand using the smaller more intricate wooden sticks. The doors and shutters are movable parts. The roof lifts off to reveal a large sized room with a loft. I have decorated it with some miniature pieces of furniture such as the bed, rocking chair, the dining table and chairs, 2 storage compartments and some nic nacs.

Large Dark Miniature Log Cabin

I used wooden dowels to create this handmade large "miniature" log cabin. I stained the outside logs dark, added details like shutters to the windows and the front door that opens and closes. The chimney is handmade of nicely hued brown colored glass. I handmade the miniature rocking chair and put in a simple railing for a front porch. The roof lifts off and inside I have added a few pieces of miniature furniture such as a bed, storage cabinets, a comfy table with chairs and even a few pieces of pottery all centered around a cozy fireplace.

Wooden Miniature:The Country Outhouse

I refer to this miniature wooden building as The Country Outhouse. Instead of using wooden dowels I chose to use a variety of wooden match sticks to build this main house that has a chimney running up the backside. I kept the natural light wood color for this theme. A small bench sits outside the front door which opens and closes. As usual the roof will lift off. Inside has a split level (or loft if you like) and a handmade ladder for the climb up. For the miniature outhouse I had to add the authentic detail of a moon shaped window often found on the originals. That was not easy using those smaller sticks to create with but rewarding once I was done.

Wooden Miniature: Wishing Well House

Since using wooden match sticks allows me greater freedom in details I created this handmade miniature that I call my Wishing Well House. This miniature wooden house of course features its own special wishing well and scenic bench. I kept the wood it's natural grain. The roof lifts off to reveal a spacious room inside.

Wooden Miniature: The Cattle Ranch

This wooden miniature I call The Cattle Ranch. As you can see.... the outside has a working door that opens and closes, a handmade miniature water well sits close to the house for easy use. There's a place to tie up the horses and a bench to rest on. The left side of the roof lifts off to reveal the room inside with a ladder to a loft and a handmade bed.

Wooden Miniature: Steeple Church

This handmade miniature wooden Steeple Church is modeled after an old time structure I saw when I lived in Texas. I kept the wood it's natural color and only sealed it. I crafted a miniature cross to hang above the entrance. The front doors open and close. At the moment, I am in the process of looking for a bell that will be suitable for the steeple. The roof is removable and inside I handmade miniature pews and a altar to complete the look.
